How can we exercise consumer choice to improve our health, our happiness, and our environment—at work and at home? What is a “conscious consumer”? Design Consultant and LEED Accredited Professional Dayle Laing draws on a wealth of research to identify the health and environmental problems posed by habits and products we use routinely and unthinkingly--like tossing fabric softeners into the dryer. Drawing on her background in Material Finishes and Textiles, Dayle helps us to identify the things we can easily change in our purchasing habits at home and our materials use at work to reduce our environmental impact and make us all healthier. With lots of pictures and examples, and hopeful good humour, Dayle touches on topics like appliances and electronics, personal hygiene and cleaning products, chemicals, and energy use. We’ll be surprised, even alarmed. We’ll also come away with vital and easy-to-implement tips for change that will really make a difference. Her message: Once you become a conscious consumer, you will never go back!
